Why Are My Brakes Grinding?

Brakes Grinding When Stopping in San Rafael
Are you noticing that your brakes are grinding when stopping? There could be a few possible reasons why this is happening:
- Your brake pads could be the cause. Over time, and with repeated drives, these pads will begin losing their thickness and begin making a squealing noise known as “brake scrubbing.” The more your pads begin to break down, you’ll instead hear a grinding noise.
- If the grinding noise is a lot sharper, it can be your brake disc and calipers. This can also lead to a rumble to the pedal. You might need not only a brake pad replacement, but also a rotor or disc replacement.
- If you hear the grinding noise when the brakes are applied at full force, you might have a problem with your Anti-Lock Braking system or ABS. Your ABS activates when you apply the full brakes and can cause vibrations in your pedal if there’s a problem.
